Nappy pattern dilema's

Well I know my facebook page says I make Modern Cloth Nappy's and there are not many listed for sale.  I am still in the process of trying to perfect my pattern and booster system.  So a fair bit of wasted minky later I am getting closer.  Now for some opinions.

Which do you prefer side snap with decorative front panel.  An example of one I started on the weekend.

Or are you more of a front snap person.

I know there are for's and against for both types but I really want to get one pattern right and stick with it for a while so I can get it "perfect".  At this stage I am leaning toward the front snap with fabric detail on the top and embroidery on the back.

Really would like to know what everyone thinks.

Caterpillars, Pirates and Dragons

I have received lots of lovely comments on my quilt and handmade photos on my facebook page.  So thought I might add a few more photos of other quilts and wall hangings I have made.  Many of these can be reproduced however some of the fabrics may vary.  As many of you crafty people out there would  know the hardest thing with handmade items is pricing them for sale.  Not many people understand the time and effort that goes into some of these creations.

The photo below is a quilt called Matilda Station.  It was a Block of the Month project pattern from The Chook Shed.  This quilt cost me about $400 in fabric to make, $150 for professional quilting and 12 months of sewing.  (This quilt is not for sale)

The wall hanging below was one of my first machine embroidery projects.  I made this for my eldest son when he was in love with dragons.  Each of the dragons took over an hour to sew out!  This item can be reproduced and the dragon embroideries are available separately.

Sewing quilts, wall hangings and hand embroidery are my first loves!  I have only begun sewing children's clothing and MCN's recently.  I have photos of lots of other project on my facebook page Red Earth Baby and  would love to make you a quilt that could become a family heirloom.  Please message me to discuss any custom quilt requests and obtain a quote. Due to the size of some of these projects the lead time could be up to 6 weeks.

First time blogging

Well I have decided to take the leap and set up a blog for my business.  First a bit about me.  I am a mum of 3 children and I love to sew in my "spare" time.  I work from home as a family daycare provider and usually have between 5 and 7 children in my care.  I do most of my sewing on the weekend so it can take me some time to get items finished.  I sew babies and children's clothing from size 00 to 5.  I am also working on perfecting my modern cloth nappy pattern.  I am relatively new at using modern cloth nappies only having used them for my third child.  I used the original terry squares for my first two children.

As I have learnt more about MCNs I have fallen in love with many of the brands currently available ie. Cherubs Kiss, Widdlewuns, Baby Beehinds to name a few.  I attended a MCN making workshop in Brisbane last year and am now hooked.  I have heaps of ideas, loads of fabric and an excellent embroidery machine.  So keep an eye out on my facebook page.  As soon as I am happy with the design of my nappies I hope to be listing some for sale.
